Our Classes

Port Macquarie Steiner

Playgroup

Our Little Bowerbirds playgroup is for 0-5 year olds and is an introduction to Steiner education. It can be a place to meet other like-minded parents and share in the journey of parenting.

The aim of our playgroup is to develop a sanctuary of safe play for children in order for them to engage and learn through creative play and to develop social and emotional skills through imitation, story and song.

Playgroup can be a chance to nourish our little ones with opportunities to experience beauty, creativity and wonder. We use beautiful, natural play materials such as wood, wool and silk and many of the toys have been hand made by members of the Port Macquarie Steiner community.
The sessions always follow the same rhythm and all elements contribute to an environment of warmth and stability where the children are free to unfold and develop their imagination and sense of wonder and interest in their world.

Unfortunately our playgroup is on hold currently until we find a new space to run the group. We will notify the community when the next dates become available.

Please contact admin@portmacquariesteinerschool.nsw.edu.au for more information or to put your name on our waiting list.

Kindergarten

We are now taking enrolments for our Kindergarten 2021 class. Please contact the school if you would like more information, or to arrange a tour and get to know more about our school and Steiner education.

We are committed to helping a young child make a comfortable transition into school. We recommend that children enter Kindergarten in the year they are turning 6, although we are taking enquiries for children turning 5 before July 31 of that year.

Our Kindergarten space is well established and has dedicated indoor and outdoor learning areas that have been specifically created for the children of this age. These are well loved and cared for by the Kindy children and their teachers.

The Kindergarten is appropriately separate from the primary classes (although the children love to visit these classes from time to time) and the true intent of this is to honour the children at this age as being within the kingdom of childhood. The Kindergarten classroom is named ‘Burray Ganya’ meaning Children’s Hut in Birpai language.

Class 1

Enrolments are open to our Class 1 2021 class. Please contact the school if you would like more information, or to arrange a tour and get to know more about our school and Steiner education.

The class 1 classroom has been established within the main school building and is next door to the class 2/3 classroom. This learning space has been lovingly created by our class teachers who use the space creatively.

In 2022, the class 1 group of 2021 will welcome the Kindy class of 2021 to become a class 1,2 composite.
During the Primary years strong relationships are built between the teacher and the families and children.

The teacher becomes for the children an important role model, and the stability in this relationship from year-to-year has a strengthening effect on the children which can last into adulthood.

Class 2-3

Enrolments are open for our Class 2,3 composite class in 2021. Please contact the school if you would like more information, or to arrange a tour and get to know more about our school and Steiner education.

The class 2,3 classroom has been established within the main school building and is next door to the class 1 classroom. This learning space has been lovingly created by our class teachers who use the space creatively.

The Class 2,3 composite is a small group of children, most of whom have been in the school since our foundation Kindergarten class in 2018. This is a very special group of children who have experienced first-hand what it is like to be part of a pioneer school. Over the past three years they have been engaged in establishing and designing the beautiful gardens and play spaces from what was a bare backyard. We see their resourcefulness expressed daily.
